The CFPB has released an online tool to help consumers find local housing counseling agencies near them to answer consumer questions and address concerns. Counselors can provide advice on buying a home, renting, defaults, foreclosures, and credit issues. Use of this tool is one way in which lenders can comply with the requirement to provide a list of homeownership counseling organizations to all applicants for federally-related mortgage loans, effective January 10, 2014.
